first movie of 2014

I started off my year of films with a bang; Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto in Dallas Buyer's Club were excellent. The commitment of these two actors to their roles was incredible — their weight loss alone was at times difficult to see.

After seeing the great documentaries We Were Here and How to Survive a Plague I was familiar with both buyer's clubs and the battle AIDS victims faced in the beginnings of the disease with the FDA. This was a great look at how a community of people came together and risked everything to help alleviate symptoms of this terrible disease.

This is the first time I've seen Matthew McConaughey in a role where he wasn't a doofus (I haven't seen Mud yet) and as usual Jared Leto was perfection. Great film, great way to start the year.
